CT consumers making cuts at mealtime
Debt management is hampering the social schedule of many Americans who may have been taking advantage of high credit limits before, but since the onset of the recession have found themselves struggling to make payments.
But while many individuals and families are managing their budgets, some are finding ways to go out to eat at a discount. "Connecticut diners, like people across the country, are looking for great meals that also are great deals," said Tim Zagat, CEO and co-founder of Zagat Survey. "Going out to restaurants is a part of our culture, so despite the economic downturn, diners will continue to eat out, but now they are on a hunt for the best for less," he noted. Cost-conscious diners in Connecticut have been increasingly heading out to grab a meal at chain restaurants, which are perceived by many to have more affordable menus. Zagat says that 78 percent of consumers are taking it one step further by eliminating appetizers, dessert and even alcohol as ordering options if dining outside the home. Other restaurants have been wooing clients with lunch and dinner prix fixe meals at "attractive values."
