This week, Adam welcomes two champions of the privacy rights arena: Beth Givens, director of the San Diego-based Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, and Joanne McNabb, Chief of the California Office of Privacy Protection. Givens, who has run the consumer information and advocacy group since she founded it in 1992, will give the lowdown on background checks by employers and what can happen when they reflect inaccurately on a job candidate’s past. McNabb, whose office provides information and assists individuals with privacy-related concerns, recently spearheaded a pioneering approach to helping foster kids who’ve been exploited by identity thieves. Having worked alongside credit reporting agencies and other government offices, she’ll explain how her state helped innocent victims get their financial lives back in order.
